That, however, is a far cry from your original claim that it is the "best OS on the market today." I would still dispute that OS X as an <i>OS</i> is superior -- I could accept that perhaps it has the best GUI environment on the market today, but the OS underpinnings could definitely use some work. On a side note, I happen to know three folks who run Solaris at home that have never been software or hardware developers. One of them, in fact, is a musician who is entirely self-taught, and uses it to "render" electronic music compositions. I see you are saying that OS X is the best desktop OS for consumer other than a developer. That, however, is a far cry from your original claim that it is the “best OS on the market today.” I would still dispute that OS X as an OS is superior — I could accept that perhaps it has the best GUI environment on the market today, but the OS underpinnings could definitely use some work.

OS X comes with a nice gui and some related applications, but those just sit on top of the OS -- they are not part of the OS itself.
